The patient portal gives your patients direct, self-service access to their own care information and lets them request appointments online. This post explains how patients get started, what they can see and do, and what remains under your clinic’s management.
Getting access
Patients don’t sign up separately for the portal. Access is tied to the same email verification your clinic staff already does. Once a patient’s email is verified at your clinic, they can log in with that email at any time.

💡Notes
There’s no invitation step, and nothing for your team to set up per patient. If a patient’s email isn’t verified yet, they simply gain access the time you verify it. Refer to the full guide on How do I verify a patient’s email.
Logging in
Patients log in with their email address and a one-time code sent to that email. There are no passwords to create or remember, and no social login.
💡Notes
Login stays active for 24 hours. After that, the patient signs in again the same way using a new one-time code sent to their email.
What patients can see
Once logged in, patients can view:
- Prescriptions: medication, dosage and instructions, prescribing doctor, clinic, and date.
- Conditions: diagnosis, date, doctor, clinic, ICD code, and type.
- Appointments: past and requested visits with their statuses.
- Test results: name, date, doctor, clinic, and current status.
Every record in the patient portal is clearly identified with the clinic it comes from. For patients receiving care from multiple clinics using LinkHMS, information from each facility remains separate and clearly labeled, making it easy to understand which clinic provided each record while keeping all relevant care information accessible through one patient account.
💡Notes
The portal is read-only. Patients can view their information but cannot edit details such as their name, contact information, or other clinical records. Any updates to patient information are managed by your clinic.
Requesting an appointment
Patients can request an appointment directly from the portal by choosing a clinic, specialty, doctor, service, and available time. The request is submitted to your clinic as an unconfirmed online appointment.
Since it isn’t a confirmed booking, your clinic staff can review and confirm, reschedule, or cancel the request in the scheduler, exactly as they would any other appointment. Refer to the complete guide on how to confirm and manage appointment requests from the patient portal.
💡Notes
Only the specialties (departments), doctors, and services your clinic enables for online booking appear to patients in the request form. Anything not enabled remains unavailable through the patient portal. For detailed instructions, see the guide on how to set up departments, doctors, and services for online booking.
Test results: what’s visible and when
A test may appear as ready in the patient portal before the result itself is available to review. This is expected because completing the test and releasing its result to the patient are two separate actions. The result only becomes viewable after your clinic staff sends it to the patient. Find the full guide on how do I send a test result to a patient. Once sent, the patient can also open the result in detail and download a PDF copy directly from the portal.
Mobile access
Patients can use the portal directly from their phone, with no app to download or desktop required. This makes self-service easier to use while helping your team reduce routine calls and information requests.
